<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a meta-material that includes a deformable structure which can actively be controlled and has a mechanical property, and a set of activation elements, and in which the activation elements can be controlled between multiple states. <P>SOLUTION: When one or more activation elements 206 are in the first activation state, the meta-material 200 has a first value with respect to a certain mechanical property, and when the activation elements 206 are activated to the second activation state, the meta-material has a second value with respect to the mechanical property. In one aspedt, the meta-material 200 is similar to a composite material which can dynamically control the connectivity between component materials or shapes and the arrangement of the component materials in order to affect the mechanical property of the meta-material 200. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
