Classes 75(ii) and 75(iv) A lantern for street lighting comprises a canopy 10 of cast alloy having a dependent end-member 11 carrying a light source such as a single-ended sodium discharge lamp 21, and a transparent or translucent trough-shaped cover 15 which is closed at one end and open at the other and is slid along on the canopy so as to enclose the light source when the open end abuts the endmember 11. The cover has lips 16 which slide on rails s 13 secured by screws to or formed integrally with the opposite e parallel edges of the canopy and rods 17A secured to the cover slide through apertures in lugs 17 dependent from the canopy and through apertures in the rim of the canopy. Removable stops 18 on the rods prevent unintentional complete removal of the cover. A lip 19 on the end-member 11 engages the open end of the cover.' A catch 22 retains the cover in closed position. Bosses 23, 23A are provided on the end-member and on the roof of the canopy for the entry of coriduits. The discharge lamp 21 is supported by a bracket 25 depending from the roof of the canopy and provided with a spring to steady the lamp. The canopy may serve as a reflector or reflector means may be suspended from the canopy Refractor plates may be provided on each side of the discharge lamp and may be cemented to the cover. |
