694,130. Drying air; cooling gases, liquids and particulate solids by direct contact with the cooling medium. WAAGNER-BIRO AKT.-GES. Jan. 10, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1950], No. 700/51. Classes 34 (i), 64 (i) and 64 (ii) [Also in Group XII] In a process for drying air or gases or for cooling air, gases, liquids or pulverulent solids, a stream 1 of the air or gas to be dried or cooled or to be used as the medium for cooling the gases, liquids or solids is divided into branch streams 2 each of which is rendered highly turbulent by impact on screens 3 and baffles 4 and, at the point of highest turbulence, drying powders or cooling media or the media to be cooled by the gases, are injected through nozzles 5. The suspension formed then passes through a duct into a vessel 8 wherein a spinning motion is imparted to the flow, the gas velocity and rotational speed being adjusted to give the necessary time contact between the media. The centrifugal force also causes the separation of the media, gas or air being withdrawn through an axial outlet 7 whilst liquid or solid material is withdrawn through an outlet 9.
|
