The hybrid engine comprises two internal combustion engine cylinders (2c) and one heat engine cylinder (2t) the hot source (32) of which is external and supplied with energy by the exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine. In the cylinder (2t) of the heat engine, the air compressed by the turbocompressor (37) is admitted via the intake port (24) and compressed in the cylinder (2t) until its temperature is equal to that of the cold end of the heat energy supply path (34). At this stage, the incoming transfer port (28) opens, the pressure equalizes with the heat energy receiving path (33), gas is displaced by the piston in this path, the outlet transfer port (27) closes and the inlet transfer port (28) opens to receive, from the hot end of the receiving path (33), a heated mass of gas when the piston moves past its top dead centre position. The inlet transfer valve then closes and the hot gas is expanded adiabatically. Use for very efficiently recovering the exhaust heat from internal combustion engines. |
