Method for treating a material in a receiver or cutter-compactor (1) comprises removing unwanted materials e.g. moisture or water vapor whilst feeding air or inert gas into the receiver in a region below the level of the material in the receiver, passing the gas through a partial region of the material and removing the enriched or saturated gas from the receiver in a region below or above the level of the material. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above treatment. Preferred Features: The gas is injected into the receiver below the material level via an active gas feeding unit (50) at a pressure and is removed from the receiver via a further active gas feeding unit. The gas is heated and/or dried before being introduced.
