Provided is a medium processing device such that the cost of a recording/reproduction head can be reduced, the work of connecting a flexible cable to the signal terminals of the recording/reproduction head can be performed easily, and the illicit acquisition of data can be prevented. The medium processing device is provided with a flexible cable (4) that is connected to a recording/reproduction head (3). The flexible cable (4) has a multilayer structure comprising a data signal layer provided with a data signal pattern for carrying data signals from the recording/reproduction head (3), and a disconnection detection signal layer which covers the front and rear surfaces of the data signal layer and is provided with a disconnection detection signal pattern that carries disconnection detection signals for detecting the disconnection of the pattern itself. The flexible cable (4) has a terminal connection part (4a) to which the signal terminals (16) of the recording/reproducing head (3) are connected, and a terminal covering part (4b) which is folded back so as to cover the terminal connection part (4a) and is affixed to the terminal connection part (4a).
