<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed rotary machine that effectively reduces a windage loss. <P>SOLUTION: A high speed rotary machine 1 includes a rotor 2 capable of high speed rotation, and a housing 3 retaining and journaling the rotor 2 therein. The housing 3 includes a storage chamber 31 storing the rotor 2, air chambers 32 in communication with the storage chamber 31, and communication portions 33 connecting the storage chamber 31 to the air chambers 32. Inner wall surfaces of the storage chamber 31 face surfaces of the rotor 2 and have clearances to the surfaces.
