<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an alumina filament containing a boron oxide component and being excellent in flexibility and heat resistance. <P>SOLUTION: When a spinning dope of an alumina-based filament precursor is prepared, a water-soluble amorphous fully saponified polyvinyl alcohol is mixed to prepare the spinning dope so that the ratio of the water-soluble amorphous fully saponified polyvinyl alcohol to the total alumina component, a silica component and a boron oxide component which constitute the alumina filament is in the range of 95/5 to 70/30. Subsequently, the spinning dope is spun by dry spinning process to provide a precursor fiber, and then the precursor fiber is calcined to provide an alumina filament. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
