The electromechanical steering system has a steering housing (1) with a ball screw drive. A steering spindle (2) is axially supported in an axial displacement direction at maximum stroke over an elastic end stop (20) at a ball screw nut (3). A front surface of a ball retainer (15) of axial joints (14) forms a contact surface (22). The ball retainer is firmly connected with the steering spindle. The axial joint is provided adjacent to the end stop. The elastic end stop is formed by a spiral spring made of metal or plastic, elastomer, wire spring or cushion wire mesh. An independent claim is included for an elastic end stop for use in an electromechanical steering system.
