<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably remove bubbles in a circulation path when filling liquid in a discharge head. <P>SOLUTION: When filling ink in a print head 24, a circulation pump 76 is controlled to circulate ink of the volume equal to or more than the entire volume of a circulation passage 60 from an approach port 69 side to a return port 73 side via the print head 24 (in the forward direction), and thereafter, the circulation pump 76 is controlled to circulate ink of the volume equal to or more than the entire volume of the circulation passage 60 from the return port 73 side to the approach port 69 side via the print head 24 (in the reverse direction).
