The device has a rigid flexible traction link (7) i.e. seat belt strap, comprising an end connected to a side door (1) and an opposite end cooperating with a roller (9). The roller is fixed to a body structure positioned near a driver seat (3) of a vehicle, and a gripping handle (13) is connected to the flexible link. The handle is accessible to a person i.e. driver, seated on the seat when the side door occupies an open position, such that the person is allowed to exert tractive effort on the traction link using the handle to cause swiveling of the side door to a closing position. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle such as car.
