PURPOSE: A variable-speed wind turbine system is provided to improve output performance by controlling the rotary speed of a power generator. CONSTITUTION: A variable speed wind turbine system comprises a rotor(4), a device(50) for measuring or estimating air density, a wind speed meter(60), a power converter(20) and, a system controller(40). The rotor comprises a blade(6). A power generator is connected to the rotor. The wind speed meter measures a wind speed outside. The power converter converters the electricity outputted through the power generator into predetermined voltage and current, and delivers the electricity to the system. The system controller outputs a torque command based on the diameter of blade, a gear ratio, a pitch angle, a measured RPM value, a measured or estimated air density value, a measured wind velocity value, and RPM value inputted by the power generator.
