The surface illumination unit has multiple light sources (2), where the fixing and the electrical contacting of a carrier (3) of the light sources are performed by an electrically conductive clamping profile (1). An electrically conductive contact point of the light source carrier is clamped for transferring the electrical energy to the contact point and fixing the light source carrier. The clamping profile is constructed on the sides of the illumination unit such that the clamping and contacting of the profile sides is performed.
