PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a communication unit that can be connected to an upper network and a lower network and a meter-reading terminal device in which the communication unit is mounted.

SOLUTION: A communication unit comprises one radio unit that performs wireless communication with an automatic meter reading network as an upper network and with a home network as a lower network.
