<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a battery having high heat resistance, a method for manufacturing the separator for a battery, a battery, a battery pack, and an electronic device. <P>SOLUTION: The separator for a battery has a first face and a second face opposite to the first face, and comprises a porous substrate 130 containing pores running from the first face to the second face, and a heat-resistant layer 131 composed of an inorganic material, covering at least the first face and the surfaces surrounding the pores, and deposited by atomic layer deposition. The separator for a battery is provided with the heat-resistant layer by atomic layer deposition so that the heat-resistant layer is formed not only on the face of the substrate but also on the surfaces surrounding the pores in the substrate.
