<p>The purpose of the present invention is to provide an aqueous sol of zirconium oxide colloidal particles, which can be used suitably as a binder for an exhaust gas purification catalyst and has excellent heat resistance at temperatures around 1000°C, and in which the colloidal particles are dispersed homogeneously. The present invention is an aqueous sol of zirconium oxide colloidal particles in which zirconium oxide is doped with at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and lutetium, wherein the atomic ratio of the rare earth element to element zirconium is 0.2 to 10 at.% and the particle diameters of the colloidal particles fall within the range from 50 to 200 nm as measured by a dynamic light scattering method.</p> |
