The insolation surface of the apparatus (20) is used to trap solar energy (26) through radiant heating. The gas (11) inside the exterior apparatus (10) is heated by conduction/convection and the resulting pressure differential causes the gas to rise. Dense cool gas enters the bottom of the apparatus through vents (2) to stabilise the pressure differential. The energised gas is compressed as it travels vertically around the preferred spiral (17) and turns the Vertical Axis Turbine(s) (5) as it exits the apparatus. The VAT's (5) will also be turned by the wind. Each rotating VAT has a connection mechanism (16) to the central propeller shaft (9). The configuration may include the use of a solar reflector (25) to make use of all available solar energy (26). The configuration may also use photo-voltaic receptors, ducting (3), floatation, multiple units and multiple apparatus. |
