PURPOSE: A data compression/decompression device and method are provided to perform lossless compression having excellent compression performance by reducing complexity of hardware and processing time. CONSTITUTION: An information hiding part(110) receives an information beat string X as an input. The information hiding part outputs a compression symbol string Z by performing lossless compression about the information beat string X by using reversible information. The information hiding part selects a 1 bit corresponding to a non-hidden information bit from the information beat string X. The compression symbol string Z outputted through the information hiding part is inputted to an encoding part(120).
