PURPOSE: A system and method for controlling a streetlight using a local wireless communication method are provided to prevent a crime at night by turning on the streetlight around a user which reporting an emergency situation. CONSTITUTION: A rescue request terminal(10) transmits an emergency signal by a local wireless communication method according to the operation of a user. An access point(20) receives the emergency signal transmitted from the rescue request terminal at a control area and transmits the received emergency signal with identification information to a safety management center server(40) through a gateway(30). The safety management server turns on a streetlight around a user by grasping the position information of the user when the information is received from the access point.
