ORIGINAL READER AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader reducing glare which a user feels by improving readiness of light emission since an LED light source is used.

SOLUTION: The original reader includes: an original cover opening/closing an original plate; original exposure means which can relatively move in a sub-scanning direction to an original on the original plate and includes the LED light source illuminating the original placed on the original plate from below the original plate; and an optical sensor detecting reflection light on an original face of illumination light by the original exposure means and reading the original while the original on the original plate is relatively moved in the sub-scanning direction. The amount of light by the LED light source with the original exposure means is controlled to gradually increase, and the increase of the amount of light by the LED light source is stopped when a reflection light amount by the optical sensor reaches the amount of light to a degree to detect presence or absence of the original.
