IMAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM, IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, PROGRAM, AND RECORDING MEDIUM FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a document region-of-interest in a document image captured by non-scan capture means.

SOLUTION: A first candidate document region-of-interest mask is formed from a luminance-only image data by foreground elimination processing, and then non-uniformity removal processing and thresholding processing is performed. A second candidate document region-of-interest mask is formed by detecting edges in the image data and subtracting an edge mask from the first candidate document region-of-interest mask. The second candidate document region-of-interest mask is refined based on text feature points in the image data, to form a final document region-of-interest mask. The document region-of-interest is extracted using the final document region-of-interest mask.
