<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a density target value of toner in a developer to be corrected more appropriately than conventionally. <P>SOLUTION: A test toner image is formed in a corresponding area between sheets on an intermediate transfer belt every time a prescribed number of prints is performed during a continuous image forming operation, and a toner adhesion amount per the unit area is detected by a toner adhesion amount sensor constituted by a reflection type optical sensor.
