<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an influence of dispersion in the width of a waveguide core layer on propagation of light. <P>SOLUTION: An optical semiconductor element 1 includes a first semiconductor layer 3 that is provided on a clad layer 2, and includes a waveguide core layer 3a and slab layers 3b in both sides thereof. The optical semiconductor element 1 includes: an insulating layer 4 that covers the side faces of the waveguide core layer 3a and the upper face of the slab layer 3b; and a second semiconductor layer 5 provided in the sides of the waveguide core layer 3a and the upper surface of the slab layer 3b via the insulating layer 4. The second semiconductor layer 5 and the waveguide core layer 3a are electrically separated by the insulating layer 4, however, optically connected to each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
