The traction battery has battery cells (3) that are arranged in groups of circuitry (4-7) and are connected over switchable separators (14). The fault detection sensors (28a) are connected to the separators which perform battery cell group separation process according to preset control algorithm. The separators are switched by a control device such that a defective battery cell detected by the sensors is disconnected from the circuitry. The transfer elements (20,21) are connected to the separators for transferring status of battery cells to external device.
