<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging member capable of stably charging an electrophotographic photoreceptor even in long-term use. <P>SOLUTION: The charging member includes a conductive substrate, an elastic layer and a surface layer, successively in this order. The surface layer contains a binder resin and solid resin particles dispersed in the binder resin and giving protrusions on a surface of the surface layer. The elastic layer comprises a rubber as a binder and hollow particles dispersed in the rubber. The hollow particles have a shell containing a thermoplastic resin and encapsulating a gas. The diameter of a projected circle of the resin particle in a lamination direction of the elastic layer and the surface layer is smaller than the diameter of a projected circle of the hollow particle in the lamination direction. When a circle having a diameter three times as large as the diameter of the projected circle of the resin particle in the lamination direction and having the center corresponding to a projected point of the peak of the surface protrusion in the lamination direction is defined and projected in the lamination direction, the sum area of projected circles of the hollow particles included in the region of the above defined circle is 80% or more of the area of the circle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
