<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turn-on device which can restrict generation of heat in a discharge lamp and also can prevent the discharge lamp from suddenly turning off, and a lighting fixture and a turn-on method. <P>SOLUTION: Following are included: a power supply unit 21 which applies electric power to a discharge lamp 10, a measurement unit 22A which measures the voltage applied from the power supply unit 21 to the discharge lamp 10, and a control unit 22D which exerts different modes of control on the value of electric power applied to the discharge lamp 10, i.e., initial control exerted when the discharge lamp 10 gets started to turn on and continuation control exerted when the discharge lamp 10 stays stably turned on. If the voltage measured after the discharge lamp 10 gets started to turn on is below a prescribed threshold, protective control is exerted by the control unit to apply an amount of power below that of the power applied when the discharge lamp 10 started to turn on. Therefore, it is possible to prevent an excessively large amount of power from being applied to the discharge lamp 10 when the value of the power applied to the discharge lamp 10 does not rise because of leakage of gas from inside the tube of the discharge lamp 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
