PLANE LIGHTING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane lighting system high in luminous efficiency.

SOLUTION: The plane lighting system comprises: a first substrate 10; a second substrate 20; a sealed space where discharge gas is sealed between the both substrates; a plurality of first electrodes 40; and a plurality of second electrodes 50 each of which is paired with each of the first electrodes 40. Light is emitted by using discharge caused between the first electrodes 40 and the second electrodes 50. Phosphor layers 11 and 23 are provided on the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20, respectively. The first electrodes 40 and the second electrodes 50 are provided in the sealed space so that ultraviolet rays generated by discharge in the sealed space are radially diffused toward the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20.
