<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium by which the glass substrate for the magnetic recording medium can obtain sufficient impact resistance without using cerium oxide or while reducing used amount thereof in a polishing step, and such a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium can be manufactured with high productivity. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium includes at least a step for performing a grinding process for inner and outer peripheral end surfaces of a disk-shaped glass substrate having a center hole. The step for performing the grinding process includes a primary grinding process for grinding the inner and outer peripheral end surfaces of the glass substrate by using a metal-bonded diamond grinding stone in which diamond abrasive grains are fixed by a binder made of metal, and a secondary grinding process for grinding the inner and outer peripheral end surfaces of the glass substrate by using a resin-bonded diamond grinding stone in which diamond abrasive grains are fixed by a binder made of a resin. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
