Multi-operator radio cells

A wireless telecommunication network base station (30) operable to provide radio coverage to user equipment (34). The base station (30) is operable to provide a radio cell to user equipment (34) operating according to a set of characteristics determined by a network operator; detect user equipment (34) operating according to a set of characteristics determined by another network operator; and adjust its radio interface to establish a radio cell to support user equipment having characteristics of said other network operator. Accordingly, the apparatus and process described enables the sharing of radio cells supported by a given set of hardware amongst multiple mobile operators by use of virtualization techniques.
