PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which display quality of a liquid crystal display panel is improved. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 1 includes the transmission type liquid crystal display panel 2 and an illumination unit 15 illuminating the liquid crystal display panel 2 from the rear surface side thereof, wherein the illumination unit 15 is provided with a light guide 21 having a rectangular first aperture part 21A, a frame 30 which has a second aperture part 30A superposed on the first aperture part 21A and a wall part 30B opposed to an end surface 21G of the first aperture part 21A and holds the light guide 21 and a buffer material 30C disposed at an end part 30F of the wall part 30B, the end part 30F being opposed to the liquid crystal display panel 2.
