PURPOSE: A transition metal compound and a transition metal catalyst composition with high catalytic activation are provided to prepare ethylene holopolymers of high molecular weight or copolymers of ethylene and alpha-olefin. CONSTITUTION: A transition metal compound is denoted by chemical formula 1. In chemical formula 1, M is a transition metal of group 4, titanium, zirconium, or hafnium. A transition metal catalyst composition for preparing the ethylene holopolymers or copolymers of ethylene and alpha-olefin contains the transition metal compound of chemical formula 1 and an alkyl aluminoxane or organic aluminum cocatalyst, boron compound cocatalyst, or a mixture thereof.
