Provided is the use of cells or a culture of cells of Lactobacillus helveticus for the manufacture of a medicament for increasing blood adiponectin concentration or inhibiting a decrease in blood adiponectin concentration in a patient having a disease associated with abnormal blood adiponectin concentration or for treating/preventing metabolic syndrome or a disease associated with excessive visceral fat accumulation.
