763,495. Filters. GENERAL MOTORS, Ltd. Feb. 28, 1955 [April 8, 1954], No. 10297/54. Class 46. One of a number of annular elements stacked and compressed axially about a tube or within a perforated container comprises a sheet 21 of, e.g., resin-impregnated paper secured to a sheet 20 of, e.g., aluminium by clamping the inner periphery 23 of the latter over that of the former. A washer 24 may be interposed or the sheet 20 may be down-turned at a position corresponding to the outer periphery of the washer to provide an integral spacer. The sheets of a single element 14 are spaced apart by outer peripheral indentations 25 between which oil to be filtered flows radially inwards. The sheet 21 is supported by the sheet 20a of the element below, along grooves 22 of which filtrate passes, and is sealed to it at its outer periphery by contact with the slightly upturned periphery 34 of the same sheet 20a. The grooves 22 may be provided in the sheet 21 instead of in the sheet 20. Elements of different permeabilities may be stacked together to effect varied filtration simultaneously.
|
