The radiator (1) has mid-wave infrared (IR) radiators (3) provided with round pipes (3a) made of quartz glass, where the radiators surround a heating filament (4). Outer surfaces of the pipes are provided on a side with a reflector and fixation layer (10), where the side faces toward a radiation surface (11). The reflector and fixation layer is made of opaque quartz glass. The pipes are elongated and arranged parallel to each other. A diffuser plate (5) is associated to a radiator arrangement, and comprises a heat accumulator layer made from porous quartz glass. The heat accumulator layer is designed as a porous silicon dioxide surface layer. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a surface radiator.
