<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that consumes less electric power. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate 200, a second substrate 300 including a counter electrode 330 facing each of a plurality of pixel electrodes 230, and a liquid crystal layer 400 held between the first substrate 200 and the second substrate 300. The first substrate 200 includes a counter voltage generation circuit COM controlling the voltage supplied to the counter electrode 330. The counter voltage generation circuit COM includes: a first switch SWA switching the electric connection between the counter electrode 330 and a first voltage source VDD; a second switch SWB switching the electric connection between the counter electrode 330 and a second voltage source VSS; a NAND circuit 530 outputting a signal that controls open and close of the first switch SWA; a NOR circuit 540 outputting a signal that controls open and close of the second switch SWB; and a delay circuit 520.
