When casting copper cakes, a bottomless box 5 formed of sheet copper bent back upon itself and with the contiguous edges 7, 8 joined, is placed in the bottom of the chilled mould. Splashes from the pouring-stream are thereby prevented from contacting the mould-walls. The mould 15 is of copper and water-proofed, and its bottom is closed by a hinged door 18, held closed during casting by a pivoted bail 20. |
