The lifting device (10) has tool (13) which is vertically movable by a motor and coupled to gear wheel (14) which is fixedly engaged with rack gear (15). A safety device includes blocking element (18) which holds the tool in a locking position, against gravitational force, in deenergized state. The blocking element holds the tool in vertical position freely, for vertical movement of tool against return force.
