In the present invention, an ECU (800) includes an abnormality determination unit (810), a condition determination unit (820), and a travel control unit (830). The abnormality determination unit (810) determines the presence/absence of an abnormality (shift pattern abnormality) in the combination of shift signals from a shift position sensor. After it has been determined that there is a shift pattern abnormality, the condition determination unit (820) determines: the fulfilling of a first condition that the shift pattern has changed to a normal pattern of a driving range; the fulfilling of a second condition that the vehicle (1) is stopped in a brake-on state; and the fulfilling of a third condition of being in an accelerator-off state. When it has been determined that there is a shift position abnormality, the travel control unit (830) stops the generation of driving force of the vehicle, and forbids switching to the driving range. After it has been determined that there is a shift pattern abnormality, the travel control unit (830) restores driving force and switches the shift range to the driving range indicated by a shift pattern when the condition determination unit (820) has determined that the abovementioned first through third conditions have been fulfilled.
