Provided is a method capable of reliably softening and separating a durable coating from a steel structure, even at low temperatures. The method for separating a coating as recited in the present invention pertains to an improvement to a method wherein a coating obtained by applying a corrosion-resistant, highly-durable coating material onto the surface of a steel structure is coated with a coating separation agent that has a penetrating agent and an organic solvent as base agents in order to cause the coating to swell and soften so as to decrease the adhesive force relative to the substrate, and then separating and removing the coating. The elapsed time since application of the separation agent and the ambient temperature of the coating are measured, and the integral of the elapsed time and the ambient temperature is used to determine the timing with which the coating separation process is initiated. Multiple temperature measurements are taken intermittently at predetermined intervals after the application of the separation agent. The integral value is derived from the sum of the respective measurements, and the temperature measurements can be taken each hour after the application of the separation agent.
|
