<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for accurately determining the degree of consumption of photosensitive drums for color printing and accurately notifying a timing for replacing a toner cartridge having the photosensitive drum. <P>SOLUTION: A printer comprising toner cartridges for color printing and a toner cartridge for monochrome printing is provided with: acquisition means for acquiring the number of sheets on which color printing has been performed and the number of sheets on which monochrome printing has been performed; calculation means for calculating service life thresholds of the toner cartridges for color printing based on the ratio between the respective numbers of sheets acquired by the acquiring means; determination means for determining whether the toner cartridges for color printing have reached their service life by comparing the sum of the number of sheets on which color printing has been performed and the number of sheets on which monochrome printing has been performed and the service life threshold calculated by the calculation means; and notification means for urging a user to replace the toner cartridges for color printing when the determination means determines that its service life has been reached. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
