<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device and communication method for reducing power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The communication device includes first communication means, second communication means, and control means. The first communication means uses a first communication mode to detect an external communication device and communicate with the detected external communication device. The second communication means uses a second communication mode to detect an external communication device with lower power consumption than detection using the first communication mode and communicate with the detected external communication device.
