An apparatus and a method for updating data files in a digital broadcasting system are provided to detect only renewed data file through flag files and download the detected flag files when a set-top box performs update of data files from a server, thereby reducing traffic of a network and a download load of the server. An apparatus for updating data files in a digital broadcasting system comprises the following parts: a server(200) for generating a flag file including update information according to kinds of data when the data file is generated; and a set-top box(100) for downloading a new flag file from the server according to a pre-selected period, comparing update information of the new flag file and update information of pre-stored flag file and downloading data files in which update information is changed from the server. |
