In a method of filtering and delivering fluid by pump from a container, a pump is selected having a delivery capacity in excess of the estimated demand and the fluid is admitted to the pump through a filter screen on to the outer surface of which the excess pump delivery is directed so as to dislodge therefrom or impede lodgment of matter unable to pass through the filter. As shown, a pump a driven by a petrol engine b is adapted to deliver liquid under pressure to a pipe c. The pump is provided with a byepass e through which excess liquid is returned to the reservoir o. The byepass e terminates in a pipe h formed with apertures whereby the liquid is directed to a filter fitted to the inlet pipe of the pump. The filter comprises a perforated tube f and a surrounding wire gauze g. |
