PURPOSE: A sustained release tablet for oral administration containing tianeptine and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to control a drug in vivo. CONSTITUTION: A sustained release tablet for oral administration contains 37.5 mg of sodium tianeptine once a day. The tablet further contains water soluble sustained release polymers of polyethylene oxide, hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose, carbomer, carboxymethyl cellulose, or polyvinyl alcohol. The tablet also contains pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, binder, disintegrant, and lubricant.
