PURPOSE: A refrigerator is provided to improve performance for sterilization and deodorization by spreading the ion generated by a sterilizer to storage evenly. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a storing chamber, a door, a door closing sensor, an evaporator, a cooling air circulation fan, a defrost heater, a sterilizer, and a controller. The circulation fan circulates the cooling air in the storing chamber. The defrost heater removes the frost stacked on the evaporator. The sterilizer is installed in the upper portion of the storing chamber. The sterilizer is operated though the defrost heater not operated and periodic or non periodic non-operation period of the sterilizer is predetermined. The controller turns on or turns off the cooling air circulation fan periodically.
