The self-propelled field chopper has an internal combustion engine which drives a hydraulic pump, and a cutting drum which is driven in rotation by a hydraulic motor (26), where the rotation is fed from the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic motor is located in the inner side of a chaff drum. The power output of the hydraulic pump is variably controlled.
