Provided is a gas sensor wherein, in fitting a connection terminal over a cylindrical sensor element, the connection terminal can suitably be fitted over the sensor element without damaging the connection element. In an oxygen sensor (1), an extending portion (55) of an outside connection terminal (29) has a shape that projects inward from a midpoint in the axial direction of an engaging portion (53), and the engaging portion (53) comprises retraction preventing portions (75,77) at end portions on the rear end side that are adjacent to the extending portion (55), said retraction preventing portions abutting against the surface on a leading edge side of a separator (27) and preventing retraction into a through-hole (23). Consequently, when causing the extending portion (55) of the outside connection terminal (29) to be inserted into the through-hole (23) of the separator (27) and retracted through an other end side of the through-hole (23), the end portion of the engaging portion (53) (i.e. the retraction preventing portions (75,77) abuts against the surface on the leading edge side of the separator (27), and retraction beyond that point can be prevented.
