<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance safety by leading high pressure gas around a negative electrode reliably to the vicinity of an upper safety valve when a rapid pressure rise occurs in a battery container. <P>SOLUTION: On both end faces of an electrode group where a positive electrode and a negative electrode are wound while sandwiching a separator, upper and lower collector members are provided in contact with a shaft having a center hole penetrating in the length direction. The lower collector member is brought into electrical conduction with a battery can via a lead plate provided with n rising parts.
