A freezeproofed aqueous silica sol, containing 25 to 50 wt.% SiO2 and 2 to 10 wt.% urea and/or urea derivatives having the general formula in which X and Y can be an NH2 or NHR group, and R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and the application of this sol in phosphate-based embedding masses used in dentistry.
