<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device for allowing a user to comfortably edit a character string in using an application. <P>SOLUTION: A portable telephone 1 comprises: a display unit 21; a key operation unit 11; a memory 101; and a CPU 100. The CPU 100 displays a character string on an input screen, the character string capable of being added with a character, and stores in the memory 101 an addition position at which a character can be added to the character string on the input screen. When a predetermined application is executed with the input screen displayed on the display unit 21, the CPU 100 displays an operation screen of the application on the display unit 21, and displays the character string displayed on the input screen in a character input area of the operation screen.
